Girl vs. Monster

Skylar Lewis is a teenager looking forward to a Halloween party and a chance to see Ryan, the singer she has a crush on. Her plans collapse when her parents ground her for the evening. Determined to sneak out anyway, she cuts the power to disable the alarm system, unaware that her parents keep monsters locked inside technological devices in the basement. The outage sets the creatures free, and Skylar learns that her family belongs to a long line of monster hunters. When the escaped monsters take her mother and father, she sets out to recapture them with help from her friends Sadie and Henry.

Stuart Gillard directed the film, the thirteenth of thirteen features he directed in chronological order, following Avalon High in 2011. Geoff Rodkey, Annie DeYoung and Ron McGee wrote the screenplay, and Tracey Jeffrey produced. Olivia Holt plays Skylar, with Kerris Dorsey as Sadie, Brendan Meyer as Henry, Katherine McNamara as Myra, Adam Chambers as Cobb and Tracy Dawson as Deimata among the twenty-seven credited cast members. The Disney Channel production was released in October 2012 and runs eighty-eight minutes.

On IMDb the film holds a rating of 5.4 from roughly 4,300 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.3 from about 290 votes. The smaller TMDB sample rates it somewhat higher than the larger IMDb audience does.
