Short description

Ben Garvey is trying to rebuild his life after a criminal past, supported by his wife and young daughter and a steady job. When he loses that job, his brother talks him into one more burglary, and the plan collapses. A man dies, Ben is convicted and sentenced to death, and he is executed by lethal injection. He then wakes in an isolated psychiatric facility, where he is told he has been taken on as the groundskeeper. Unsure whether he has cheated death or been drawn into something darker, he struggles to hold on to his sanity and his faith while searching for a way back to the family he loves.

The Lazarus Project was released in 2008. It is a drama and thriller running 99 minutes, made in the United Kingdom and the United States by Mandeville Films, Scion Films, Inferno Distribution and Be Good Productions, on a budget of 10 million dollars. John Glenn directed and wrote the screenplay, with David Hoberman, Todd Lieberman and Matt Milich producing. Paul Walker plays Ben, alongside Piper Perabo as his wife Lisa, Lambert Wilson as Avery, Linda Cardellini as Julie Ingram, Shawn Hatosy as Ben's brother Ricky, and Bob Gunton as Father Ezra. It is Glenn's first feature as director, following earlier work as a screenwriter, and it drew 33 credited cast members and 75 credited crew. On TMDB it holds a rating of 6 out of 10 from 405 votes.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The film features a sound cue from the thriller "Skeletal" (Rob Cohen, 2000), in which Paul Walker played Caleb.
  • Paul Walker's character has a nightmare about his father's suicide and wakes up. In one frame, he is shown with a wedding ring on his finger, and in the next – without it.
  • When Paul Walker's character gets out of the car, his shirt is wet, and in the next frame, it is dry.
