• During filming in one of the towns in New York state, the filmmakers accidentally damaged two power line poles with transformers. A fire broke out that could not be extinguished with water until the electricity was shut off. Consequently, 11 residents of nearby houses had to be evacuated and relocated to hotels.
• The film is dedicated to the memory of director Stuart Rosenberg (1927-2007), under whom the film's director, Rob Schmidt, once studied.
• Almost the entire film was shot on location. Only one set with decorations was constructed for the filming.
• During the first meeting between the characters played by Eliza Dushku and Timothy Hutton at his home, bottles can be seen on a high sideboard in the background. This suggests that the character is able to stand up and is by no means confined to a wheelchair.
