Izzy Daniels is a teenage boxer training to win the Golden Glove, the same title his father and grandfather claimed before him. His path seems set until Mary, a neighbour who leads a jump rope team, needs a replacement for an injured member. Izzy agrees to fill in, expecting it to be temporary, and finds that he has both a talent for Double Dutch and a genuine love of it. That discovery puts him at odds with his father and exposes him to teasing from the boxers he trains with, leaving him to decide which of the two sports he should pursue.
The film was directed by Paul Hoen, the fifth of the sixteen features he has directed in chronological order, following Read It and Weep and preceding The Cheetah Girls: One World. Doreen Spicer, Regina Y. Hicks and Karin Gist wrote the screenplay, and Kevin Lafferty produced. Corbin Bleu plays Izzy, with Keke Palmer as Mary, David Reivers as his father Kenneth, Shanica Knowles as Shauna Keaton, Laivan Greene as Keisha Ray and Kylee Russell as Karin Daniels.
Released in January 2007 and running 84 minutes, the film blends comedy, drama and romance. Audience scores differ by platform: it holds a 5.4 rating on IMDb from around 9,200 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.4 from roughly 424 votes, a smaller and more favourable sample.
