Confession of Murder centres on a killer whose crimes have passed the statute of limitations. Lee Doo-suk publishes a memoir describing the murders in detail and becomes a media celebrity, while the detective who once hunted him, Choi Hyung-goo, is forced to look after the man he failed to catch. Victims' families want revenge, and another figure emerges claiming to be the real killer, throwing doubt on Lee's account.
Jung Byung-gil wrote and directed the film, which was his first feature, followed by The Villainess and Carter. Jung Jae-young plays Detective Choi, Park Si-hoo plays Lee Doo-suk, and Kim Yeong-ae appears as Han Ji-soo, a mother who lost her daughter. The production, made in Korea by Showbox and Dasepo Club, took about 22 million dollars worldwide.
The audience scores sit close together, with a rating of 7 out of 10 on IMDb from around 13,000 votes and 7.1 out of 10 on TMDB from far fewer votes. A critics' rating of 7.5 out of 10 from 24 reviews places it slightly above those audience scores. The 119-minute film mixes action and thriller elements.
