Spike Island

Spike Island is a British coming-of-age comedy-drama set in 1990, centred on a group of teenage friends from Manchester who are devoted fans of the Stone Roses. When word spreads that the band will play a large outdoor concert at Spike Island in Cheshire, the friends set out to be there, determined to hand their demo tape to their idols. Their journey becomes the film's main thread, with the trip testing the friendships and ambitions of young musicians on the verge of adulthood.

The film was directed by Mat Whitecross, the first of four features listed for him, followed by Supersonic, Red Nose Day Actually and Idols. Chris Coghill wrote the screenplay, and Fiona Neilson and Esther Douglas produced. The cast includes Elliott Tittensor as Tits, Emilia Clarke as Sally, Nico Mirallegro as Dodge, Adam Long as Little Gaz, Jordan Murphy as Zippy and Oliver Heald as Penfold, with 46 credited cast members in total.

Released in October 2012 with a runtime of 96 minutes, the film is a British production backed by BBC Film, Head Gear Films, Vertigo Films and Bankside Films. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.3 out of 10 from around 4,600 votes, and on TMDB it also stands at 6.3 out of 10, from 81 votes. A critics' rating of 4.9 out of 10 from 27 reviews places it below those audience scores.
