Mortuary

The Doyle family relocates to a rural part of California to start over, taking charge of a funeral home that has long stood empty. The people in the surrounding town avoid the property, believing it to be cursed ground. Before long, the family finds that something sinister lies beneath their new home, and that the dead are not content to remain buried.

Tobe Hooper directed this horror and mystery film, the fourteenth of the fifteen features he made in chronological order, following Toolbox Murders and preceding Djinn. Jace Anderson and Adam Gierasch wrote the screenplay, and E.L. Katz, Alan Somers and Peter Katz produced it. The cast includes Dan Byrd as Jonathan Doyle, Denise Crosby as Leslie Doyle, Alexandra Adi, Bug Hall, Lee Garlington and Rocky Marquette.

Released in 2005, the film runs 94 minutes. Its reception was poor across the board: the film critics' rating stands at 3.6/10 from 307 reviews, while on IMDb it holds 4.2/10 from around 6,700 votes and on TMDB 4.5/10 from 132 votes. Critics and audiences alike placed it near the bottom of the scale, though the much larger number of IMDb votes makes that score the more representative audience measure.
