Sex and Death 101

Roderick Blank is a successful businessman whose life is upended a week before his wedding when an anonymous email arrives containing a list of every woman he has slept with and every woman he ever will. The list proves accurate, which sends him through a series of encounters as he tries to make sense of what it means for his engagement and his future. At the same time, a woman who targets men she holds responsible for sexual crimes is working her way through her own agenda, and her path eventually crosses Roderick's in a way that ties into the list's final name.

Daniel Waters wrote and directed the film, his second turn in the director's chair following his earlier work as a screenwriter. Simon Baker plays Roderick, with Winona Ryder as Death Nell, also known as Gillian De Raisx, the woman marked as number 101. The supporting cast includes Leslie Bibb, Mindy Cohn, Julie Bowen and Dash Mihok, among roughly forty-five credited performers. The film runs 117 minutes and blends comedy, drama and romance.

Released in June 2007, the film drew modest audiences and mixed responses. On IMDb it holds a 5.9 rating from around 12,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.2 from roughly 319 votes. A critics' rating of 4 out of 10, drawn from about 40 reviews, is noticeably lower than the audience scores, suggesting viewers were more receptive to the film than reviewers were.
