Turning Tide

Yann Kermadec fulfills a lifelong ambition when he becomes a last-minute substitute for his friend, Frank Drevil, in the Vendée Globe, a solo sailing race around the world. During the competition, Yann is forced to make a stop in Cape Verde to carry out boat repairs. Upon returning to the sea, he discovers a young Senegalese passenger has hidden on board. Yann must decide whether to keep the stowaway, a choice that risks his disqualification from the race and threatens his goal of winning.

The film was directed by Christophe Offenstein and represents the first of three films he has directed, followed by Comment c'est loin in 2015 and Present Perfect in 2024. The cast features François Cluzet, Samy Seghir, Virginie Efira, Guillaume Canet, Karine Vanasse, and Arly Jover. Produced by Canal+, Gaumont, SCOPE Pictures, and Ciné+, the project had a budget of 17 million USD but earned 7 million USD at the worldwide box office. Audiences have given the movie moderate scores, with a rating of 6.4/10 on IMDb based on 2,700 votes and 6.2/10 on TMDB from 243 votes.
