Rachel Getting Married

Kym Buchman has spent much of the past decade moving in and out of rehabilitation, and she leaves her latest stay to attend the wedding of her sister Rachel at the family home. Her return unsettles a household already busy with preparations and guests, and long-simmering tensions between the sisters and their parents surface over the course of the weekend. What should be a celebration becomes an occasion for the family to confront its history.

Jonathan Demme directed the film, the thirteenth of the fourteen features he made, following The Manchurian Candidate and preceding Ricki and the Flash. Jenny Lumet wrote the screenplay, and Demme produced with Marc Platt and H.H. Cooper. Anne Hathaway plays Kym, with Rosemarie DeWitt as Rachel, Bill Irwin and Debra Winger as their parents, and Tunde Adebimpe as Sidney Williams. The credited cast runs to 103 names.

Made for about 12 million dollars, the film took roughly 17 million at the worldwide box office. On IMDb it holds 6.7 out of 10 from around 53,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.3 from about 675 votes. A critics' rating of 7.6 out of 10 from 201 reviews is noticeably higher than either audience figure.
