One Night with the King

One Night with the King is a biblical drama set in ancient Persia, where King Xerxes searches for a new queen. A young Jewish woman named Hadassah hides her background when she is brought to the palace and chosen as his bride, taking the name Esther. Her position becomes dangerous when a powerful court figure plots the destruction of the empire's Jewish population, and she must decide whether to reveal who she really is.

The film was directed by Michael O. Sajbel, released in 2006, and runs 123 minutes. It was his first feature as director, followed by The Ultimate Gift in 2007 and The Mulligan in 2022. Stephan Blinn wrote the screenplay, and Lawrence Mortorff, Blinn and Matthew Crouch produced. Tiffany Dupont plays Hadassah, also known as Esther, opposite Luke Goss as King Xerxes. The cast includes Peter O'Toole as the prophet Samuel, Omar Sharif as Prince Memucan, John Rhys-Davies as Mordecai and John Noble as Prince Admantha.

Made for a reported 20 million dollars, the film returned about 14 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a critics' rating of 4.4 out of 10 from 25 reviews, while on TMDB it has a rating of 6.7 out of 10 from 76 votes, a gap that suggests general viewers responded more warmly than reviewers did.
