Fat Albert

Fat Albert is a comedy-fantasy film about a cartoon character who steps out of television and into the real world. When Doris Robertson, a lonely teenager in Philadelphia, sheds a tear onto her remote control while watching her favourite animated series, Fat Albert and his friends from the Cosby Kids take it as a cry for help. The group leaves their drawn universe and arrives in her living room in the flesh, determined to sort out her troubles at school and at home. Their unfamiliarity with everyday life in the modern world causes complications, and Albert's feelings for Doris's older sister, Lauri, add another problem he did not expect. He turns to the show's creator, Bill Cosby, for guidance.

Joel Zwick directed the film, which followed My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002) in his filmography. Bill Cosby, Charles Kipps and Sam Harper wrote the screenplay, John Davis produced, and the cast of 37 credited performers is led by Kenan Thompson as Fat Albert, with Kyla Pratt as Doris, Dania Ramirez as Lauri and Shedrack Anderson III, Jermaine Williams and Keith D. Robinson among the Cosby Kids.

The film was released on December 25, 2004 and runs 93 minutes. Against a budget of 45 million US dollars, it earned about 49 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 4.4/10 from around 14,000 votes, on TMDB 5.1/10 from 284 votes, while critics gave it 4.6/10 across 91 reviews, ratings that closely echo one another.
