The Good, the Bad, the Weird

Set in 1930s Manchuria, this Korean action adventure follows three men whose paths collide over a treasure map said to lead to riches from the Qing dynasty. Yoon Tae-goo is a thief who seizes the map during a robbery, Park Chang-yi is a ruthless killer hired to recover it, and Park Do-won is a bounty hunter determined to claim it for himself. Their pursuit brings them into conflict with the Japanese army and the various bandit gangs operating across the lawless frontier, turning the map into the prize in a three-way contest.

Kim Jee-woon directed and co-wrote the film with Kim Min-suk, placing it fifth in his filmography after A Bittersweet Life. Song Kang-ho, Lee Byung-hun and Jung Woo-sung lead a cast of 98 credited performers, supported by Yoon Je-moon, Ryu Seung-su and Song Young-chang. Made for about 10 million USD, it mixes action, adventure, comedy and western elements across a 130-minute runtime.
