Short description
Chev Chelios survives a fall from a helicopter, only to wake in a hospital where surgeons working for a Chinese mob boss have removed his heart. He escapes with an artificial pump in its place, a device powered by a battery that needs frequent jolts of electricity to keep running. Chasing down the people who took his heart, he has to keep finding new ways to recharge himself while staying ahead of his pursuers.
Brian Taylor and Mark Neveldine directed and wrote the film, following their 2006 debut Crank, and both went on to direct Gamer the same year. Jason Statham returns as Chelios, with Amy Smart as Eve, Dwight Yoakam as Doc Miles, Efren Ramirez as Venus and Jose Pablo Cantillo as Ricky Verona. The production cost about 20 million USD and grossed roughly 35 million USD worldwide.
On IMDb the film holds 6.1/10 from around 167,000 votes, and on TMDB it also stands at 6.1/10, from a much smaller base of about 3,000 votes. A critics' rating of 5.9/10 from 72 reviews places it slightly below both audience scores. It runs 96 minutes and was released in April 2009.
What's left behind the scenes
- Removed from release in all cinemas in Belarus due to a large number of scenes with unacceptably frivolous humor and scenes of visual violence.
- Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington has a cameo in both parts of "Adrenaline." In the first, he advises Chava in a pharmacy on what to buy; in the second, Chester gets upset when the protagonist tries to rub against him.
- The Linkin Park song "Given Up" was featured in the film's trailer, but was not included in the film itself.
- Ron Jeremy's participation in filming the scene of the porn actors' strike was not planned, however, he showed up on set, deciding that directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor had simply forgotten to call him and invite him to the shoot. All of his lines in the scene were, naturally, improvised.
- The film was shot using semi-professional Canon HF10 and XH-A1 Full HD video cameras.
- The word "fuck" is uttered 164 times in the film.
- Real porn actors participated in the filming of the scene where the main character, played by Jason Statham, stumbles upon a crowd of porn actors.
