De-Lovely

De-Lovely is a biographical drama about the American composer Cole Porter, moving between his life in the 1960s and the world of his past. As an old man in his New York apartment, Porter sits at the piano and plays a melody that draws him into a theatrical staging of his own life. A figure named Gabriel guides him through the people and moments that shaped him, above all his wife, Linda Lee Thomas, who remained his muse even as his appetites placed their marriage under strain.

Kevin Kline plays Cole Porter and Ashley Judd plays Linda, with Jonathan Pryce as Gabriel and supporting turns from Kevin McNally, Sandra Nelson and Allan Corduner. The film was directed by Irwin Winkler, the sixth of the seven features he directed between Guilty by Suspicion in 1991 and Home of the Brave in 2006, from a screenplay by Jay Cocks.

Released in July 2004, De-Lovely cost about 15 million dollars and returned roughly 18 million worldwide, a modest result against its budget. On IMDb and TMDB it holds ratings of 5.7 and 6.1 respectively, indicating mixed audience response.
