Underdogs

Underdogs centres on Amadeo, a shy young man in a small town whose talent at table football far outstrips his confidence with Laura, the friend he has quietly loved for years. His unhurried life ends when a local boy who became the world's greatest footballer returns home, still nursing a grudge over the one defeat of his life, the one Amadeo handed him at the foosball table when they were children. The returning star intends to flatten the bar and the village to build a stadium, and when Laura is taken, Amadeo finds the figurines on his table have come to life, led by the charismatic Capi, and are willing to fight alongside him.

The Argentine-Spanish animated adventure was directed by Juan José Campanella, who also co-wrote it with Eduardo Sacheri and Victor Glynn, following his 2009 film The Secret in Their Eyes; his next feature came in 2026. Campanella voices several characters, among them Armando, Eusebio, Lechuga and Clark, while David Masajnik voices Amadeo, Diego Ramos plays the footballer Grosso and Pablo Rago plays Capi. Twenty-eight cast members and 145 crew are credited.

Made for about 21 million dollars, the film took roughly 33 million dollars worldwide. On TMDB it holds 7.1 out of 10 from 584 votes.
