Good Time Max

Good Time Max is a drama about two gifted brothers whose lives take opposite directions. Adam applies himself, studies medicine and becomes a successful surgeon. Max, equally brilliant but far less disciplined, drifts into drug use and reckless schemes. When Max gets into serious trouble, he turns to his brother for help, and the two set off together for California. Adam agrees on the condition that Max stay clean and avoid causing problems, but old habits prove difficult to break, and the arrangement strains their relationship. The film explores how the brothers' different temperaments lead them along diverging paths and what happens when their lives intersect again.

The film is directed by James Franco, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Merriwether Williams and stars as Max. It was produced by Vince Jolivette through Rabbit Bandini Productions and runs 79 minutes. The credited cast numbers 32, among them Wilmer Calderon, Richard Portnow, Jarrod Bunch, Bailey Hughes and Tylor Chase. Good Time Max is Franco's first feature as director, preceding As I Lay Dying, In Dubious Battle, The Disaster Artist and others.

On IMDb, the film holds a rating of 5.9 from roughly 2,600 votes. On TMDB, its rating stands at 5.4 from a much smaller base of 44 votes, so that figure reflects far fewer viewers. Taken together, the two ratings place the film in modest territory.
