Tyler Perry's The Family That Preys

Tyler Perry's The Family That Preys follows two women whose friendship has endured for decades despite their very different circumstances. Charlotte Cartwright is a wealthy socialite, while Alice Pratt comes from a working-class background and holds firmly to her ideals. Their bond is tested when troubles among their grown children, including affairs and questionable business dealings, along with a hidden secret, put both families' futures at risk. Seeking distance from the pressure, the two friends set out on a road trip across the country, hoping to regain perspective and perhaps keep their families from falling apart.

The film, written and directed by Tyler Perry, was released in September 2008 and runs 110 minutes. It is the fifth of the 29 features he has directed, arriving between Meet the Browns and Madea Goes to Jail. Alfre Woodard plays Alice and Sanaa Lathan appears as Andrea, with Rockmond Dunbar, KaDee Strickland, Cole Hauser and Taraji P. Henson among the cast. Reuben Cannon and Perry produced through Tyler Perry Studios and Reuben Cannon Productions.

Made for a modest budget, the film earned enough at the box office to be considered a commercial success. On TMDB it holds a rating of 6.9 out of 10 from 97 votes, indicating generally favorable viewer responses.
