Nobel Son

Nobel Son centres on Eli Michaelson, a chemistry professor whose already considerable ego swells further when he is awarded the Nobel Prize. His wife Sarah, a forensic psychiatrist, and his son Barkley, a struggling doctoral student, are drawn into the orbit of his triumph and his infidelities. Before the family can leave for the ceremony in Stockholm, Barkley is abducted by Thaddeus James, a young man who claims to be Eli's illegitimate son and who wants a share of the prize money.

Randall Miller directed the film, his sixth feature, working from a screenplay he wrote with Jody Savin; the two also produced. The cast is led by Alan Rickman as Eli, with Bryan Greenberg as Barkley, Shawn Hatosy as Thaddeus and Mary Steenburgen as Sarah, alongside Eliza Dushku and Bill Pullman among 33 credited performers. It is a comedy, crime and drama made in the United States on a budget of four million dollars.
