Krakatoa follows a Javanese fisherman who survives a massive volcanic eruption. After becoming stranded on an uninhabited island, he searches for water and food, a journey that leads him deeper into the earth in a psychedelic experience.
The film was written and directed by Carlos Casas, who also served as a producer alongside Beli Martínez and Helena Girón. This production is the second film directed by Casas, following his 2024 project Bestiari. A co-production between the United Kingdom, Spain, and Poland, the movie was produced by Filmika Galaika, Map Productions, La banda negra, and AMI. The project blends elements of action, drama, and documentary over a runtime of 79 minutes.
