Better Living Through Chemistry is a comedy drama about Douglas Varney, a small-town pharmacist stuck in a dull routine and a loveless marriage to his domineering wife, Kara. His life takes a sharp turn when Elizabeth Roberts, an attractive customer, walks into his pharmacy. The two begin an affair, and Elizabeth introduces him to prescription drugs as a source of pleasure. As Douglas, a skilled pharmacist, mixes chemicals to intensify their experiences, the relationship pulls him further from his ordinary existence and toward a plan to kill Elizabeth's husband.
The film was directed by Geoff Moore and David Posamentier, who also wrote the screenplay, and was produced by Felipe Marino and Joe Neurauter. It is a British and American production with a budget of 5 million dollars. Sam Rockwell plays Douglas, with Michelle Monaghan as Kara, Olivia Wilde as Elizabeth, Ray Liotta as Jack Roberts, Norbert Leo Butz as Agent Andrew Carp, and Jane Fonda as a pharmacy customer. The credited cast numbers 33.
On IMDb, the film holds a rating of 6.2 out of 10 from around 16,000 votes, while on TMDB it has a rating of 5.9 out of 10 from 326 votes. These figures suggest a modest but measurable response from viewers since its release in March 2014.
