The Rover

Ten years after a worldwide economic collapse, a drifter named Eric makes his way through the Australian outback, a place where law and order have broken down and human life carries little value. The only thing he has left is his car. When a gang steals it, Eric ends up with Rey, a wounded young man the thieves left behind, and the two form an uneasy partnership: Rey may be able to lead Eric to the gang, so Eric keeps him close as he hunts them down.

David Michôd directed and wrote the film, which was produced by Liz Watts, David Linde and Michôd himself. It was his second feature, following Animal Kingdom, and later came War Machine, The King and Christy. Guy Pearce plays Eric, with Robert Pattinson as Rey, and Scoot McNairy, David Field, Susan Prior and Anthony Hayes in supporting roles.

Made for around 12 million dollars and released in June 2014, the film took in roughly 3 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a 6.3 rating from about 1,094 votes, while the critics' score stands at 6.5 from 173 reviews, so reviewers rated it slightly above the general audience. The story unfolds across a sparse, dangerous landscape where Eric's single-minded pursuit drives the relationship between the two men.
