Still Crazy

Still Crazy follows a British rock band called Strange Fruit, who burned bright in the 1970s before drugs, infighting and a fatal overdose tore them apart. Two decades later, former keyboardist Tony Costello decides a reunion tour could give the group another shot. With encouragement from the band's old manager, Karen Knowles, he tracks down his scattered former bandmates, most of whom have drifted far from the fame they once enjoyed. Getting them back on stage proves difficult, and the tensions that ended the band the first time have not disappeared.

Brian Gibson directed the film, his fourth feature after Poltergeist II: The Other Side, What's Love Got to Do with It and The Juror. Ian La Frenais and Dick Clement wrote the screenplay, and Amanda Marmot produced. Stephen Rea plays Tony, with Billy Connolly, Jimmy Nail, Timothy Spall, Bill Nighy and Juliet Aubrey among a credited cast of 54. The film runs 95 minutes and blends comedy with music.

Released in October 1998, Still Crazy drew a 7 out of 10 on IMDb from around 9,300 voters and 6.9 out of 10 on TMDB from roughly 126. A critics' rating of 6.5 out of 10 from 26 reviews puts professional opinion slightly below the audience scores, suggesting a warm but not unanimous response.
