Last Chance Harvey

Harvey Shine is an American jingle composer whose career has stalled, and the wedding of his daughter Susan brings him to London at a bad moment. The trip turns worse when he learns that his ex-wife's new husband, Brian, will walk Susan down the aisle instead of him. Harvey leaves the celebration as soon as he can, only to miss his flight home to New York and lose the job he was already on thin ice for, partly because of all those unanswered calls and messages piling up while he was away.

Killing time at the airport bar, he meets Kate Walker, a British government worker whose life has settled into a routine of office obligations, constant calls from her mother, and disappointing blind dates. The two fall into conversation, and a connection forms between them that neither expected.

Joel Hopkins wrote and directed the film, the first of the three features he has made to date, with Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson in the lead roles and Eileen Atkins, Kathy Baker, Liane Balaban and Daniel Lapaine among the credited cast of thirty-six. Made for a modest 5 million dollars, it took roughly 33 million worldwide, a strong return on its budget, and sits closely matched on IMDb and TMDB, with audiences rating it a little above the critics' 6.2 out of 10 from 156 reviews.
