In 2074, two rival corporations dominate the cybernetics industry: Pinwheel Robotics in the United States and Kobayashi Electronics in Japan. Cyborgs have become common, doing work that ranges from combat to sex work, and fortunes are at stake in the competition between the two firms. Pinwheel builds Casella "Cash" Reese, an advanced cyborg designed for industrial espionage and killing, and implants a liquid explosive inside her body with the aim of destroying the Kobayashi leadership from within. Cash instead develops feelings for her martial arts trainer, Colson "Colt" Ricks, and when she learns what her creators intend for her, the two flee. Pinwheel responds by sending a drug-addicted pursuer and a cyborg assassin after them, and the pair must survive in a hostile city while deciding what they want to become.
Michael Schroeder directed the film, released in November 1993, and wrote the screenplay with Mark Geldman and Ron Yanover. It followed his earlier work as a director and stands as a sequel in the Cyborg series. Angelina Jolie plays Cash, with Elias Koteas as Colt, Jack Palance as Mercy, Billy Drago as Danny Bench, Karen Sheperd as Chen and Allen Garfield as Martin Dunn. Made for about 5 million dollars, the film received low marks from viewers, sitting at 4 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 5,500 votes and 4.3 out of 10 on TMDB from a much smaller pool of 153 votes, indicating that audiences have generally not embraced it.
