Toolbox Murders

Nell and Steven Barrows move into the Lusman Building, an aging Art Deco hotel in Hollywood that has seen better days and is now being renovated. Steven works at a hospital, while Nell, who restores old buildings, takes on the overhaul of their apartment. Strange noises and a growing number of disappearances in the building push her to look into the Lusman's past, which is tied to esoteric symbols on its walls and to something that has apparently been dormant for decades. The renovation work seems to have stirred it up, and a killer who knows the building's hidden corners begins striking.

Tobe Hooper directed the film, the thirteenth of the fifteen features listed for him in chronological order, arriving between Crocodile and Mortuary. Adam Gierasch and Jace Anderson wrote the screenplay, and Gierasch also appears in the cast as Ned Lundy. Angela Bettis plays Nell, with Brent Roam as Steven, and Rance Howard, Juliet Landau and Marco Rodríguez among the supporting roles. The production was handled by Alpine Pictures, Toolbox Murders Inc., Scary Movies LLC and Toolbox Films, and it runs 95 minutes.

Released in November 2004, the film is a horror mystery. On TMDB it holds a rating of 5.6 out of 10 from 205 votes, which places it in modest territory for a genre title of its period.
