Lake Placid 2
Short description
Lake Placid 2 returns to the Maine town of Lake Placid, where mutilated remains found near the water put residents on edge. The local sheriff, a forest ranger who is also his former wife, and a specialist called in from New York set out to deal with whatever is killing people around the lake. What they face is not a single animal: three giant crocodiles are involved, one of them an aggressive female guarding a nest. An eccentric hunter and a wealthy enthusiast join the effort as the town's panic grows. The film is a sequel to Lake Placid, set some years after the earlier attacks.
David Flores directed the film, his second feature after Boa vs. Python in 2004. Howie Miller and Todd Hurvitz wrote the screenplay, and Jeffery Beach and Phillip J. Roth produced. The cast includes John Schneider as Sheriff James Riley, Sam McMurray as Struthers, Sarah Lafleur as Emily, Chad Michael Collins as Scott, Alicia Ziegler as Kerri and Joe Holt as Ahmed. It was made for a budget of about 3 million dollars and runs 88 minutes.
Audience response has been weak. On IMDb the film holds a rating of 3.2 from more than 7,000 votes, and on TMDB it sits at 4.9 from a much smaller number of votes, indicating a low opinion among the viewers who have seen this low-budget creature feature.
What's left behind the scenes
- At one point, the character played by Sam McMurray, upon hearing something, says, “I hate that rabbit.” This is Yosemite Sam’s catchphrase – a character from the “Looney Tunes” and “Merrie Melodies” cartoons, Bugs Bunny’s eternal enemy.
- When the sheriff leads his son and his girlfriend into the house, the weapon he is carrying transforms from a grenade launcher into a powerful rifle. Subsequently, the weapon in his hands will change several more times.
