Asterix: The Mansions of the Gods

Julius Caesar has never managed to conquer the small Gaulish village that refuses to submit to Rome, so he tries a different approach. Instead of soldiers, he sends architects: a luxury Roman housing development, the Mansions of the Gods, is to be built in the forest beside the village, gradually drawing its stubborn inhabitants into Roman ways. Asterix, Obelix and their neighbours are not willing to let that happen, and they set about disrupting the construction.

The film is an animated adaptation of the comic by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo, who share screenplay credit with director Alexandre Astier. Astier and Louis Clichy directed it together, marking the first animated feature for both and the first of two Asterix films they made as a team. Roger Carel voices Asterix, with Astier as the centurion Oursenplus and a supporting cast that includes Lionnel Astier, Serge Papagalli, François Morel and Élie Semoun.

Produced in Belgium and France for a budget of about 30 million dollars, the film took roughly 44 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.9 out of 10 from around 17,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.8 out of 10 from about 1,500 votes, a close agreement between the two audiences. It runs 85 minutes.
