Jungle Fever

Jungle Fever follows Flipper Purify, a married black architect in New York whose life is upended when he begins an affair with Angie Tucci, an Italian-American woman who works in his office. Their relationship draws disapproval from both of their families and communities, leading to consequences for Flipper's marriage, his relationship with his daughter, and his standing in the workplace. The film also follows Gator, Flipper's brother, whose struggle with drug addiction forms a second strand of the story that Spike Lee wrote, directed and produced.

Released in 1991, Jungle Fever was Spike Lee's fifth film as director, coming between Mo' Better Blues (1990) and Malcolm X (1992). Wesley Snipes plays Flipper and Annabella Sciorra plays Angie, with Lee appearing as Cyrus. Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee play Flipper's parents, and Samuel L. Jackson plays his brother Gator. The film had a budget of about 14 million dollars and earned roughly 32 million dollars worldwide, a solid return.
