Short description
New Orleans detective Danny Fisher arrests Miles Jackson, a thief wanted for a multi-million-dollar heist, but during the takedown Jackson's girlfriend is killed. A year later Jackson escapes from prison, kidnaps the woman Danny loves, and forces him into twelve rounds of dangerous challenges placed around the city. Each round pushes Danny to act before innocent people are hurt, while Jackson directs the game from a distance.
The film was directed by Renny Harlin, the fifteenth of the twenty-eight features he has made, following Cleaner and preceding 5 Days of War. Daniel Kunka wrote the screenplay, and Mark Gordon, Michael Lake and Josh McLaughlin produced. John Cena plays Danny Fisher, with Aidan Gillen as Miles Jackson, Ashley Scott as Molly Porter, Steve Harris, Brian J. White and Gonzalo Menendez among a credited cast of sixty-two, supported by a crew of 174.
Released in March 2009 and running 108 minutes, the film is a production of WWE Studios with Fox Atomic, The Mark Gordon Company and Midnight Sun Pictures, made for a budget of 22 million dollars and earning 17 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 5.6 out of 10 from around 32,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.9 from 867 votes. A critics' rating of 4.7 from 71 reviews places it below the audience scores.
What's left behind the scenes
- Preparing for the filming of car chase scenes, John Cena completed a special training course with the New Orleans Police Department. This allowed him to perform car stunts without the use of stunt doubles.
- Initially, John Cena and Ashley Scott's characters were supposed to have a bulldog, but a pug was chosen instead.
- John Cena is afraid of heights. Given that his character performs at heights in some scenes, it’s not surprising that Cena seriously considered leaving the project at one point.
- In the original script by Daniel Kunka, the film was set in Chicago. It was moved to New Orleans at the insistence of director Renny Harlin (born Lauri Mauritz Harjola).
