Tanner Daniels becomes the first openly gay student at North Gateway High after being outed against his will. His sudden visibility draws the attention of three girls locked in a battle for social supremacy, each hoping to claim him as her Gay Best Friend, the accessory of the season. Torn between his new status among the popular crowd and Brent, the classmate he leaves behind, Tanner has to weigh rising fame against old loyalties.

Darren Stein, who wrote the screenplay with George Northy, directs this 2014 comedy, his third feature after Sparkler and Jawbreaker, and also serves as a producer. Michael J. Willett leads the cast as Tanner, alongside Paul Iacono as Brent, with Sasha Pieterse, Andrea Bowen and Xosha Roquemore as the three competing students and Molly Tarlov as Sophie Aster. The production, made for about 3 million dollars, credits 74 cast and 41 crew members.

Released in January 2014, the film runs 93 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.9 from roughly 12,000 votes, while on TMDB it also sits at 5.9 from 410 votes. A critics' score of 6.4 from 45 reviews places it slightly above the audience ratings on both platforms.
