After a suicide bombing kills the Sultan of Java, Jake Travers, an American working undercover, becomes caught up in the police investigation led by Lieutenant Hashim. The two men come from very different worlds, and their partnership is uneasy, but both are drawn toward the same target: Malik, a calculating criminal whose bombings and kidnappings serve to mask his real purposes. Their pursuit moves through the palaces, mosques and back streets of Java as Jake tries to clear himself and Hashim works to stop the violence.
Java Heat is a 2013 American action film directed by Conor Allyn, who wrote the screenplay with Rob Allyn and also produced it alongside Seth Baron. It was the first of the three features Allyn has directed, ahead of Walk. Ride. Rodeo. and In the Fire. Kellan Lutz plays Jake, with Mickey Rourke as Malik, Ario Bayu as Hashim, and supporting turns from Tio Pakusadewo, Atiqah Hasiholan and Verdi Solaiman.
Made for 15 million dollars, the film drew modest audiences on release. Its IMDb rating of 5.1 from 5,000 votes and TMDB rating of 5.2 from 91 votes suggest viewers found it ordinary, and a critics' score of 3.5 out of 10 from 14 reviews places professional opinion lower still.
