Short description
A catastrophic tunnel collapse in the Moscow metro system causes a massive flood from the river, trapping a group of passengers underground. Among the survivors are Andrey, a surgeon, and Vlad, a businessman. The two men are rivals for the affection of the same woman, Irina. As water rapidly fills the rail network and threatens the stability of the city above, these adversaries must set aside their personal conflicts to lead the other survivors toward the surface.
This action thriller was directed by Anton Megerdichev, marking the first of three films he has directed, followed by Three Seconds and The Plagiarist. The movie stars Sergey Puskepalis, Anatoliy Belyy, and Svetlana Khodchenkova. Produced by companies including Mosfilm and Cinema Fund, the film had a budget of 13 million USD but earned 4 million USD at the worldwide box office. On TMDB, the film has a rating of 6.7/10 based on 381 votes.
What's left behind the scenes
- For the filming of the movie, a 117-meter long tunnel was constructed to full scale, and real subway cars were used.
- In October 2011, filming took place in Samara. For almost two weeks, the Samara Metro played the role of the Moscow Metro. Filming was conducted at the Alabinskaya station under construction, the existing Moskovskaya station, and at the depot. The Samara Metro even provided the film crew with a special train specifically for filming the movie.
- A mixed-breed dog named Pyotr, half Yorkshire Terrier and half Miniature Pinscher, played the role of Tyavka.
- The film is based on the novel of the same name by Dmitry Safonov.
- In the scene where Khodchenkova’s character learns from the news that her family is in the subway, it is clearly visible during the phone call that her iPhone is locked.
