Short description

S. Darko is a science fiction mystery that continues the story of the Darko family. Seven years after the death of her brother Donnie, eighteen-year-old Samantha Darko sets out for Los Angeles with her best friend Corey. Their journey is interrupted when their car breaks down in a small desert town, where they are stranded for several days. There Samantha is troubled by disturbing visions that seem to foretell the end of the universe, and a meteorite strikes the area, unsettling the normal order of things. She must confront her own fears and find a way to prevent the catastrophe she foresees.

The film was directed by Chris Fisher, marking his second feature after Dirty (2005) and preceding Street Kings 2: Motor City and Meeting Evil. Nate Atkins wrote the screenplay, and Adam Fields and Ash R. Shah produced. Daveigh Chase leads the cast as Samantha, joined by Elizabeth Berkley, Briana Evigan, James Lafferty, Ed Westwick and Bret Roberts, among a credited cast of twenty-four. Made for about four million dollars, it took in roughly the same amount worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 3.6 from 15,000 votes, and on TMDB 4.3 from 504 votes, while a small group of critics rated it 3.4 out of 10.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The falling meteors are actually tesseracts, or four-dimensional hypercubes.
  • In one scene, an explosion occurred too close to Ed Westwick and damaged his eardrum.
  • The author of the book "Jesusonomy" is film director Chris Fisher. Initially, he wanted to title the book "Jesusology," but that name was already taken.
  • Randy mentions a town called Conejo Springs. "Conejo" translates from Spanish as "rabbit" or "bunny," a reference to Frank, the giant rabbit from the film "Donnie Darko" (Richard Kelly, 2001).
  • The film is set in 1995.
