Ana, a French woman of Israeli origin, travels to Israel after her father's death to search for the daughter she gave up for adoption twenty years earlier. Her Israeli stepbrother Uli accompanies her, and their journey leads them into the Gaza Strip settlement where the young woman has been living. Their arrival coincides with Israel's withdrawal from Gaza in 2005, and the two find themselves caught up in the military evacuation of the settlers.
Amos Gitai directed the film from a screenplay he wrote with Marie-Jose Sanselme. It sits between his contributions to the omnibus projects September 11 and To Each His Own Cinema and his later features Venice 70: Future Reloaded, Shikun and The Road to Jericho. Juliette Binoche plays Ana, with Jeanne Moreau as Françoise, Barbara Hendricks as Barbara, Liron Levo as Uli, Hiam Abbass as Hiam and Dana Ivgy as Dana.
Released in 2007, the drama runs 115 minutes and was produced across Germany, Israel, Italy and France. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.8 from 878 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 4.9 from 14 votes. The two audience scores differ noticeably, and the larger IMDb sample places the film in middling territory.
