Land of the Lost

Land of the Lost is a science fiction comedy about Dr. Rick Marshall, a palaeontologist whose ideas have made him a laughing stock. When his assistant Holly pushes him to try the device he has built, it pulls the two of them and a survivalist named Will into a space-time vortex. They land in an alternate world where dinosaurs roam and where slow-moving reptilian creatures are a constant threat. With no weapons and little practical know-how, the three depend on a primate called Chaka as they search for a way back.

Brad Silberling directed the film, which came after his earlier work on Casper, City of Angels, Moonlight Mile, Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events and 10 Items or Less. It was written by Chris Henchy and Dennis McNicholas and produced by Jimmy Miller with Sid Krofft and Marty Krofft, drawing on the Kroffts' television series. Will Ferrell plays Marshall, with Anna Friel as Holly, Danny McBride as Will Stanton, Jorma Taccone as Chaka and Matt Lauer appearing as himself.

Universal Pictures backed the production with a budget of 100 million US dollars, alongside Mosaic Media Group, Relativity Media and Sid & Marty Krofft Pictures. The film earned about 69 million dollars worldwide, less than its reported cost. On IMDb it holds 5.3 out of 10 from around 79,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.5 out of 10 from roughly 1,500 votes. A critics' rating of 4.2 out of 10 from 189 reviews places it below even those audience scores.
