If You Are the One

Qin Fen is a single inventor who has spent years abroad and returns to China hoping to find a wife who is modern on the outside but traditional within. He advertises on a dating service and meets a series of women, all of whom turn out to be far more practical and uninhibited than he expected. During this search he encounters Liang Xiaoxiao, a flight attendant caught up with a married man who keeps promising to divorce his wife. Qin Fen and Xiaoxiao travel to Hokkaido together, where he tries to help her get over her heartbreak, and along the way both of them move toward genuine love and a sense of renewal.

Feng Xiaogang directed and wrote the screenplay; Kuo-Fu Chen produced. The film is the fifth of the thirteen features Feng has directed in chronological order, coming after Assembly and before If You Are the One 2. Ge You plays Qin Fen, Shu Qi plays Liang Xiaoxiao, and Alex Fong Chung-Sun appears as the married man, with Wu Yicong, Fan Wei and Feng Yuanzheng in supporting roles.

Made by Media Asia Films and Huayi Brothers Pictures, the film took in about 54 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.8 out of 10 from roughly 4,000 votes, and on TMDB it also averages 6.8 out of 10, from around 108 votes, so the two audiences agree closely on it.
