52 Pick-Up

52 Pick-Up is a crime thriller about Harry Mitchell, a Los Angeles businessman whose affair with a young woman becomes the lever for an extortion scheme. Three blackmailers confront him with video evidence of the relationship and demand a large payment. Because his wife Barbara is running for city council, Harry refuses to involve the police, and he also declines to give in to the demands. The standoff escalates as the blackmailers, led by the unstable Alan Raimy, resort to more extreme measures to force his hand, and Harry decides to take on the gang himself.

John Frankenheimer directed the film, the eleventh of the eighteen features he made, following The Challenge and preceding Dead Bang. The screenplay was written by Elmore Leonard and John Steppling. Roy Scheider plays Harry, with Ann-Margret as Barbara, Vanity as Doreen, John Glover as Alan Raimy, Robert Trebor as Leo Franks and Lonny Chapman as Jim O'Boyle. The production involved 57 credited cast members and 73 credited crew, and it was released by Cannon Group and Golan-Globus Productions.

The film opened in November 1986 and took about 5 million dollars worldwide, a modest return. On IMDb it holds a 6.4 rating from around 8,100 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.1 from roughly 158 votes, indicating a limited but steady audience response.
