Slipstream stars Anthony Hopkins as Felix Bonhoeffer, an aging screenwriter who has long drifted between everyday reality and an inner world of his own making. While working on a murder mystery, he finds the characters from his script intruding on his life, and his own life bleeding into the story. Past and present, dreams and waking moments blur, and Felix gradually loses his footing between the two.
The film was written and directed by Hopkins, his second feature behind the camera after August (1996), and it is set in the American independent film tradition. Alongside Hopkins, the cast includes Stella Arroyave as Gina, Lana Antonova, Michael Clarke Duncan, S. Epatha Merkerson, and Lindsay Barth. It was produced by Robert Katz and Arroyave, among others, with a running time of 96 minutes.
Slipstream was released in February 2007. Its ratings reflect a divided response: a film critics' rating of 4.4/10 from 41 reviews, and on TMDB a 4.9 out of 10 from roughly a hundred votes, placing the two measures close together and pointing to a generally lukewarm reception on both sides. On IMDb, the film has drawn similarly modest scores.
