Flight of the Intruder

Flight of the Intruder follows U.S. Navy pilots flying combat missions from an aircraft carrier during the Vietnam War. Lt. Jake Grafton loses his bombardier and close friend in action, and is paired with Lt. Cmdr. Virgil Cole, a veteran crew member. Frustrated by restrictions that keep them from striking a key target in Hanoi, the two men plan an unauthorized bombing run that could expose them to a court-martial if they survive it. The film is based on the novel by Stephen Coonts, a former combat pilot.

John Milius directed, working from a screenplay by David Shaber and Robert Dillon, with Mace Neufeld and Robert Rehme producing. It was Milius's sixth feature, arriving after Red Dawn and followed later by Motorcycle Gang. Danny Glover plays Cmdr. Frank Camparelli, Willem Dafoe plays Cole, and Brad Johnson plays Grafton, with Rosanna Arquette, Tom Sizemore and J. Kenneth Campbell among a credited cast of 44 and a crew of 86.

Paramount backed the production with a budget of 35 million dollars, and the film earned about 15 million worldwide, a fraction of its cost. On TMDB it holds a rating of 5.8 from 151 votes, indicating a modest audience response.
