Even Money

Even Money follows several people whose lives are pulled apart by gambling. A novelist hides her habit from her husband and daughter while feeding family money into slot machines. A magician with connections to bookmakers passes along inside information about a college basketball game. A detective works to shut down illegal betting, and a young player is caught between the outcome of a championship match and pressure from those who want it fixed. Their separate stories converge around the same game and the stakes riding on it.

The film was directed by Mark Rydell, working from a screenplay by Robert Tannen. It is the eighth feature in Rydell's directing career as listed here, arriving after James Dean in 2001 and following earlier films including The Cowboys, The Rose and On Golden Pond. Kim Basinger plays Carolyn Carver, with Ray Liotta as Tom Carver, Kelsey Grammer as Detective Brunner, Forest Whitaker as Clyde Snow and Nick Cannon as Godfrey Snow; Jay Mohr also appears. Danny DeVito is among the producers. The production was a German-American venture, with a credited cast of 46 and crew of 54.

On TMDB the film holds a rating of 5.6 out of 10 from 79 votes, which suggests a muted response from those who have seen it. Released in March 2007, Even Money runs 113 minutes and belongs to the crime and drama genres.
