The Big Brawl

Jerry Kwan is a young martial artist living in 1930s Chicago. When local gangsters try to extort money from his family, Jerry fights them off, which draws the attention of the mob boss Dominici. Recognizing Jerry's skill in hand-to-hand combat, Dominici forces him into an underground fighting tournament where almost nothing is prohibited. Jerry must find a way to survive the brutal competition while dealing with the pressure the gangster puts on his family.

The Big Brawl is an action comedy directed and written by Robert Clouse, released in 1980. It followed two of Clouse's earlier films, Enter the Dragon and Game of Death, and came before Deadly Eyes. Jackie Chan stars as Jerry Kwan, his first leading role in an American production. The cast also includes Mako, Kristine DeBell, José Ferrer, Rosalind Chao and Chao Li Chi, among 34 credited performers. The film was a co-production between Hong Kong and the United States, made on a budget of about 6 million dollars, and it grossed roughly 21 million dollars worldwide.

On IMDb the film holds a rating of 5.1 out of 10 from six critics' reviews, while on TMDB its audience score stands at 5.9 out of 10 from just over 200 votes. The gap between the two is modest, with viewers rating it somewhat higher than critics did. The box office return, several times its budget, indicates it found an audience despite the mixed response.
