Cyborg She

Jiro Kitamura is a university student who spends his birthdays alone, buying his own present and eating at the same restaurant. On one such day he meets an attractive young woman who claims the same birthday and stays with him until nightfall, when she reveals she is a cyborg who has travelled back from the future. She returns a year later, this time to protect him from a shooting that would otherwise leave him injured, and as she uses her abilities to help him and those around him, the two grow closer. Jiro falls in love with her, while she begins to develop human feelings, though she knows things about the future that she keeps from him.

The film is a Japanese and Korean co-production directed and written by Kwak Jae-yong, whose earlier credits include My Sassy Girl, The Classic and Windstruck. It is his fourth feature as director, and it came before A Year-End Medley. Haruka Ayase plays the cyborg, with Keisuke Koide as Jiro, alongside Risa Ai, Yoshikazu Ebisu, Kenichi Endo and Kenta Kiritani.

Released in 2008, the film mixes action, comedy, romance and science fiction, and runs two hours. Made for about 9 million US dollars, it returned roughly 7 million worldwide, a modest result. On TMDB it holds a rating of 7.2 out of 10 from a relatively small number of votes, suggesting a warm but limited audience.
