Ghost in the Shell: Arise - Border 1: Ghost Pain

Set in 2027, one year after a non-nuclear war, the story takes place in New Port City. The city is still recovering from the conflict when it is hit by a self-propelled mine bombing. Simultaneously, a military official involved in arms-dealing bribes is shot dead. Public Security Section leader Daisuke Aramaki meets Motoko Kusanagi, a highly skilled cyborg hacker attached to a secret military unit. While detective Togusa investigates the shooting and a separate murder, an operative named Batou suspects Kusanagi may be responsible for the bombing. Meanwhile, Kusanagi remains under the close surveillance of her superiors and other cyborg agents.

This Japanese science fiction animation was directed by Kazuchika Kise and Masahiko Murata. For Kise, this project is part of a series of films that includes Border 2, 3, 4, and 5, as well as The New Movie. Murata previously directed several Naruto films before this 2013 release and later worked on Border 5. The voice cast features Maaya Sakamoto as Motoko Kusanagi, Ikkyu Juku as Daisuke Aramaki, and Kenichirou Matsuda as Batou. The film has received generally positive feedback from viewers, holding a 7.1 rating on IMDb from 4,700 votes and a 7 rating on TMDB from 241 votes.
