Grey Gardens

Grey Gardens is a drama based on the lives of Edith "Big Edie" Bouvier Beale and her daughter Edith "Little Edie" Bouvier Beale, an aunt and first cousin of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Raised as Park Avenue debutantes, the two women withdrew from New York society and settled into their summer house in East Hampton, Long Island. Over the years their fortune and their ties to the outside world shrank, and the house fell into disrepair. When health authorities threatened to clear the property, the resulting publicity drew attention from a famous relative and from filmmakers, turning the reclusive pair into a public curiosity.

Michael Sucsy directed the film, his first feature, followed later by The Vow and Every Day. Drew Barrymore plays Little Edie and Jessica Lange plays Big Edie, with Jeanne Tripplehorn as Jacqueline Kennedy, Ken Howard as Phelan Beale, Kenneth Welsh as Max Gordon and Arye Gross as Albert Maysles.

Made for television by HBO Films and released in 2009, the production had a budget of 12 million dollars. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.4 from around 12,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.8 from a much smaller base of 152 votes. A film critics' rating of 8.6 from 32 reviews places it noticeably above the audience scores.
