Shinjuku Incident

Shinjuku Incident follows a Chinese man who enters Japan illegally in search of the woman he loves. Settling in Tokyo, he takes whatever work he can find and falls in with other undocumented Chinese immigrants, among them his friend Jie. When he discovers that the woman has married a yakuza boss named Eguchi, he chooses to remain in the country rather than return home, and the decisions that follow draw him into the criminal underworld. The film is set in the 1990s and was directed by Derek Yee Tung-Sing, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Tin-Nam Chun. It arrived between his 2007 film Protégé and Triple Tap in 2010. Jackie Chan stars as Steelhead, heading a cast that includes Daniel Wu, Xu Jinglei, Fan Bingbing, Naoto Takenaka and Masaya Kato, with 21 credited performers in total.

The production was a co-production between Hong Kong, Thailand and Japan, made for a budget of 15 million US dollars, and it earned 5 million dollars worldwide, a return well below its cost. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.9 from more than thirteen thousand votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.6 from a few hundred. A critics' rating of 6.6 from five reviews places it close to both audience scores.
