Tracks

Tracks follows Robyn Davidson, a young Australian woman who sets out to cross the desert from Alice Springs to the Indian Ocean with only her dog and four camels for company. Her plan meets resistance from those around her, and her solitude is interrupted when a National Geographic photographer, Rick Smolan, joins her at points along the route to document the journey. The film is based on Davidson's own account of the trek.

John Curran directed the film, working from a screenplay by Marion Nelson. It was produced by Emile Sherman and Iain Canning through See-Saw Films, with Screen Australia among the production companies. Mia Wasikowska plays Davidson, Adam Driver plays Smolan, and the cast also includes Emma Booth, Jessica Tovey, Lily Pearl and Robert Coleby. The film runs 112 minutes and falls between Curran's Stone and Chappaquiddick in his filmography.

Released in December 2013, Tracks is an Australian production that took about 5 million dollars at the worldwide box office. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.1 from roughly 33,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.9 from around 581 votes. A critics' rating of 7 out of 10, drawn from 127 reviews, places professional assessments slightly above the audience score on TMDB and close to the IMDb figure.
