Phil Broker, a former agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration, moves to a small town with his young daughter, Maddy, hoping to leave his old work behind. Their new life is disrupted when Maddy gets into a confrontation at school with a boy connected to Morgan "Gator" Bodine, the local crime boss. Gator begins looking into Broker's background, and what he finds turns a personal dispute into a broader campaign against Broker and the town, while Broker's main concern is keeping Maddy safe.
Homefront was directed by Gary Fleder, whose earlier features include Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead, Kiss the Girls, Don't Say a Word, Impostor, Runaway Jury and The Express; this was the seventh film he directed. Sylvester Stallone wrote the screenplay and produced alongside Kevin King Templeton and John Thompson. Jason Statham plays Broker, James Franco plays Gator, and Izabela Vidovic appears as Maddy, with Kate Bosworth, Marcus Hester and Clancy Brown among the credited cast of 40.
The film was released in November 2013 and runs 100 minutes. Made for a budget of 22 million US dollars, it took about 48 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.5 out of 10 from roughly 142,000 votes, and on TMDB 7 out of 10 from around 3,959 votes, a set of audience scores showing a moderately positive response. A film critics' rating of 5 out of 10 from 113 reviews sits below the audience figures.
