Franz Eberhofer, a former Munich detective who has been transferred back to his Bavarian home village, expects a quiet life in Niederkaltenkirchen. When someone paints "Die, you pig!" on the house of a local secondary school principal named Höpfl and the man is shortly afterward found dead on the railway tracks, Franz suspects murder rather than suicide. The death unsettles the small town, where serious crime is rare, and Franz investigates with his friend Rudi Birkenberger, a former colleague from Munich. A second body turns up, a drug user who knew Höpfl well, and Franz's investigation becomes tangled with his girlfriend Susi's affair.
The film is a comedy crime story directed by Ed Herzog, who had made his feature debut with Happy Weekend in 1996 and followed Dampfnudelblues with Schweinskopf al dente in 2016, The Dumpling Affair in 2017 and several further entries in the series through Steckerlfischfiasko in 2026. Christian Zübert wrote the screenplay, and Sebastian Bezzel plays Franz, with Simon Schwarz as Rudi, Eisi Gulp and Ilse Neubauer as his father and grandmother, Lisa Maria Potthoff as Susi and Gerhard Wittmann as Leopold Eberhofer among 27 credited cast members.
Released in 2013 and running 87 minutes, the film took about 5 million dollars worldwide, a modest figure consistent with a regional German comedy. On IMDb it holds 6.9/10 from roughly 3,300 votes, and on TMDB 6.8/10 from about 152 votes; the two audiences are closely aligned, indicating a solidly received but not widely seen title.
