Sophie Scholl: The Final Days

Sophie Scholl: The Final Days is a German historical drama set in Munich in 1943, during the Second World War. A group of university students opposed to the Nazi regime forms an underground resistance movement known as the White Rose, dedicated to bringing down the Third Reich. Among its members are Sophie Scholl and her brother Hans, who distribute anti-regime leaflets on campus. When they are caught during one such action in February 1943, they are taken into Gestapo custody. Sophie's interrogation by investigator Robert Mohr develops into a prolonged contest of wills, as she weighs her loyalty to the group and to her brother against the evidence mounting before her.

The film was directed by Marc Rothemund, working from a screenplay by Fred Breinersdorfer, and it stands third in Rothemund's filmography, following Love Scenes from Planet Earth and Ants in the Pants. Julia Jentsch plays Sophie, with Fabian Hinrichs as Hans, Alexander Held as Mohr, André Hennicke as Judge Roland Freisler, Johanna Gastdorf as Else Gebel and Florian Stetter as Christoph Probst. It is a German production from ARD, Goldkind Filmproduktion and Broth Film, running 117 minutes.
